Heart Disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, making preventative heart care one of the most important things any individual can do to protect their health. Below are some of the common risk factors for heart disease and heart attack. Heart disease claims the lives of more than 450,000 men and 505,000 women each year in the United States.*  Many would have survived had they recognized the signs:

Men's Symptoms

  • Crushing chest pain
  • Pain radiating down the left arm 
  • Lightheadedness
  • Sweating
  • Fainting

Women's Symptoms

  • Very unusual fatigue
  • Unusual shortness of breath
  • Nausea and dizziness
  • Lower chest discomfort
  • Back pain
  • Indigestion or gas-like pain
  • Pain spreading to shoulders, arm, neck and jaw.

  • Heart disease, also known as coronary artery disease, is the leading cause of death in the United States.
  • One life is lost to heart disease every 30 seconds.
  • 300,000 people suffer heart attacks every year without warning or symptoms.
  • 45 percent of all heart attacks -- one third of which are fatal -- occur to people between the ages of 45 and 65.
  • 44 percent of women who have heart attacks die within a year.
  • 30 percent of heart disease patients have no obvious risk factors like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes or a family history of heart attacks.
